The B.Tech. course is duly approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India and the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. The duration of study of this course is 4 years (8 semesters) and total intake in each discipline is 40+8 (lateral entry) students. The B.Tech course in Ceramic Technology is NBA accredited.


The Institute has been offering a full time postgraduate course leading to M. Tech in Ceramic Technology since 2006. The sanctioned intake of students for the M.Tech course is 18.The M.Tech. course in Ceramic Technology is NBA accredited.


This academic department offers guidance and facilites for Ph.D.programe. The Institute has collaborated with reputed institutions at national and international level for postgraduate, project and Ph.D programmes.The Petronus University of Malaysia, Northern University in Saudi Arabia, Curtin University in Australia, Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, Presidency University, CGCRI, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics are the ones to name a few.

Faculty Members

Dr. Rituparno Sen, Professor of Ceramics & HOD, had his B.Tech from this institute and M.Tech from B.H.U. He has been teaching Materials Sc.& his current research interest is on Phase Transition in Aluminium-Magenesium-Scandium based alloys by Positron Annihilation Technique in collaboration with Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, He also doing a project work on Jute-Cement Composite materials for road construction jointly with IIT-Khargpur and sponsored by All India Jute Manufacturers Association.

Dr. Kaberi Das, Asst Professor, had her B.Sc. (H) from Presidency College & B.Tech, M.Tech & PhD from Calcutta University. Her current research interest is in the development of Natural Raw Materials, High Performance Zirconium based ceramics: fly ash & Blast furnace Slag based Whitewares & Glass Ceramics. She has recently completed a project sponsored by AICTE on Magnesia based materials and got another project sanctioned by UGC on Natural Raw Materials. She is having two patents in her name & numbers of publications in National & International Journals.

Ranjan Ray, Associate Professor, has obtained his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in 1980, and Master of Chemical Engineering in 1984 with specialization in Combustion Engineering, from Jadavpur University. He worked in a medium size Boiler Manufacturing Company for a brief period of three and half years as Project Co-ordinator and subsequently joined this college in 1987 as a lecturer in Chemical Technology. He teaches Unit Operations, Energy Resources, Process Principles etc.

Mr. R. C. Das, Associate Professor, had his B.Tech from this institute and M.Tech from B.H.U.He has been teaching Whitewares, Kilns & Furnace and Quality Assurance. . He is having long industrial experience in Whitewares & TQM. He is presently working on RPS project sponsored by AICTE on ?Development of Wear Resistance Ceramics using Fly Ash?. He is a qualified lead Auditor for ISO 9001,ISO 14001,OHSAS and he is a Master Black Belt on Six Sigma.

Dr. Srimanta Patra, Asst.Professor, had his B.Sc. (H) from Belur Vidyamandir & B.Tech, M.Tech & PhD from Calcutta University. He has been teaching cement Tech & Non Oxide Ceramics. His current research interest is on synthesis & characterization of High Temp. Ceramic Semiconductors. He is also in charge of Nano Technology lab.

Dr. BK. Sanfui, Assistant Professor of Ceramic Technology, did his B.Sc. (Honours in Chemistry), B.Tech., M.Tech. (J.U) & Ph.D. (Tech.) from the University of Calcutta. He has also completed his DITA Course from Yuva Kendra. He has been teaching Refractories, Process Ceramics, Metallurgy, Refractories for Steel Plant etc. His areas of research are in the field of Waste management, Ceramic/polymer membranes, Nano ceramic/polymer composites, Nano clay, Rheological behaviour of clay, Refractories and Thin film & Nano Technology. He is currently investigating a number of sponsored research projects primarily funded by DST, SERB-DST, Govt. of India etc. In addition, he is also actively pursuing research work in collaboration with IITG, CSIR-CG&CRI, C.U, J.U and other reputed Institutions. He has published twenty one (21) numbers of publications in reputed national, international journals and conferences. He has successfully supervised thirteen (13) numbers of B.Tech. and two (02) numbers of M.Tech. projects. He is life member of different learned societies like The Indian science congress association, The Indian chemical society, The Indian ceramic society etc. Apart from his normal academic work, he is also involved with other administrative works. Currently a number of research scholars are carrying out their research work under his supervision.

Dr. Tapas Kr. Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor, had his B.Sc.(H), B.Tech & M.Tech. from Calcutta University & PhD from Jadavpur University. He has been teaching Whitewares, Ceramic Raw Materials, Chemical Thermodynamics & Kinetics. His present research work is on Whitewares product from cheaper waste materials like Fly Ash & Slag, Synthetic Ceramic Raw Materials and he has a number of Publications on his credit.

Dr. M.S.Dutta, Smt. Sonali Sarkar, Smt. Ipsita Pathak and Mr. Papu Halder are part-time faculty members who are engaged in teaching Ceramic Technology based subjects of this college.
